Session

As there were in Old Testament times elders for the government of the people, so the New Testament Church provided persons with particular gifts to share in governing and ministry. (Book of Order, G 6.0301). DPC Elders serve as members of the DPC Session. It is the duty of the Session to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the Congregation. The Session meets once a month on the first Monday of every month, except during July and August. Members of the Session lead or oversee standing committees in the Church, as indicated below. Elders are elected to three-year terms and may serve up to 2 terms in a row. DPC's current Elders are listed below. Rev. Dave McNeilly serves as Moderator of the Session, and Jan Summers serves as Clerk.

Board of Deacons

The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. (Book of Order, G-6.0401). The ministry of the board of deacons is very important in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Deacons are elected, or selected by the membership of the church and are ordained (or set apart) for leadership through this ministry. Every year new deacons are added to the board here at Darnestown Presbyterian. Two youth deacons are elected every year for a one year term. Adult deacons are received onto the board and serve for a term of three years. The DPC Board of Deacons meets the 4th Monday of every month except during July and August. Amy Jenkins is the current Moderator & Tina Brunhart performs the role of Secretary for the Deacons. The Rev. Tamara Leonard Lara staffs the board. Each deacon serves as an usher for 2 months of Sundays every year, serves communion twice during the year and hosts three coffee hours. Each deacon also serves on one of the committees listed below. The entire board of deacons sponsors 4 morning fellowships, the annual church picnic and 2 evening pot luck fellowship events per year. The board also sends cards to those who are ill, recovering from surgery or are shut-in, and helps coordinate aid and other acts of caring as necessary.
