Welcome! We are delighted you found us!
Darnestown Presbyterian Church is a mid-sized church (450 members) located right on old Route 28 just after entry to Darnestown. We are main-line, but lively and spirited in all we do. We seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ in this current age, and therefore look to include absolutely everyone in our community of faith and service. Indeed, we strive to bring the grace, compassion and good news of Christ to life each and every day, believing it is possible to be spirited and faithful, but also be inclusive, compassionate and open-minded.
Worship each week begins at 8:45 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. (with a bit more room at the early service!) from mid-September through mid-June. We have a single service at 9:30 a.m. over the summer months. Our worship is always child friendly, including a children's sermon followed by a Junior Church program. There is always a professionally-staffed nursery available. A warm welcome is offered to all visitors at worship, and first time visitors are given a home baked loaf of bread.
Our Sunday School is strong and growing in numbers. A new curriculum that has been well received helps our capable teachers present the good news. There are classes for all ages from nursery on up! Two adult classes meet each week studying a variety topics. "The Book of Revelation" & "Sharing the Faith with our Children" are the adult topics that open our adult classes this year. Our Youth Group, under the direction of our Associate Pastor, is friendly, welcoming and growing, as well.
Mission is important at DPC. We support the mission work of the Presbyterian Church (USA), so our denomination can support over 200 missionaries in over 68 countries around the world. In our own community, we support AA, Germantown HELP, Habitat for Humanity, the Lord's Table Soup Kitchen, plus five other local mission organizations. Mission trips to Drift, Kentucky, and to downtown Washington, DC, give all a chance to actually do mission.
Fellowship happens at DPC. A Homecoming Worship/Picnic/Rally Day event (each September) opens our autumn ministry each year. We also have a fellowship time from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. each week in our aptly named Fellowship Hall. Plus there are Pot-Luck Dinners, the Chili Cook-Off, Saturday Movie Nites, Drift Pancake Breakfast, DPC Softball teams, et al -- that bring us together in fellowship and joy.
We also sing at DPC, and ring, too! Our Chancel Choir offers a wide variety of music for our worship each week. Our Teen Choir adds their voices to our service each month. Our Bell Choir rings monthly. Our Children's Choir sings on special occaisions. Our music is truly diverse in style, but the spirit is strong and friendly, and under the direction of our church musician, all of our choirs are growing. Please note that our choirs are volunteer and all -- no matter what their gifts might be -- are welcome to participate. Praise of the Lord and communion within the choirs, remain the primary goals of our church music.
New members are welcomed to our Congregation regularly. 'Pastor Dave' holds membership classes regularly - watch for announcements on Sundays or on the website. After attending class, visitors interested in joining will have a chance to meet with our Elders, and then be admitted to membership during a worship service. We encourage all new members to attend the class on Presbyerianism offered regularly during the Sunday School hour and to become involved with a ministry at DPC. This is the best way to meet new people, and form a lasting church connection. If you have any questions at all about DPC, or are interested in becoming a member, please call the Church office (301 948 9127) and ask to speak to one of our Pastors.
Again, we are delighted you have found our web page, and you are hereby invited to join us for worship this Sunday!
God's richest blessing to you!
