Our Membership & Outreach Committee will be holding a Welcome Pot Luck Dinner on Sunday, June 3, for DPC officers & all who have recently joined or who have been attending DPC. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, and all activities will be concluded by 7:30 p.m.  Our goal is to help our leaders welcome and get to know those who are recently attending. Our very popular Vacation Bible School (VBS) happens every summer during the month of July at DPC. Our 2012 VBS is scheduled for July 9-13 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Registration is now open.

VBS is a great fellowship opportunity with adults and youth working together to help guide the younger kids in an exploration of the Bible while doing crafts, recreation, and even science experiments. The children walk away not only singing Sunday School songs they will remember for years to come, but also with a whole new understanding of what the Church can mean to them and their families. Middle schoolers will have the option of developing a thematic skit to be performed on the last day of VBS. High schoolers will have many opportunities to volunteer and interact with children.

Why I Belong...

cheryl_dottermusch_2

When my family and I started coming to DPC in 1993 we found a warm welcome--our children were young and the congregation was so friendly. We have felt at home ever since, attending the traditional, yet family-friendly, worship service in our beautiful historic sanctuary. I soon became involved in the women’s group, and though I am not crafty I enjoy the fellowship and reward of working together each year to prepare for our annual bazaar which raises money to support our many worthwhile missions.

I keep coming back to Darnestown Presbyterian because each week I am invariably inspired by the thoughtful and thought-provoking sermons delivered by our pastors and by the awesome music provided by our adult, youth and children’s choirs led by our music director. I love teaching Sunday school because the children and youth keep me learning. And I love gathering with others, whether for Bible study, or for a Dinners-for-Eight, or for coffee after worship, because though we are all at different places on our faith journeys, I find a safe haven for exploring who God is and what He has in store for me.  I have been ordained as a Deacon and as an Elder, and I am excited to be back on the Board of Deacons because this is where I belong!
