The Five Intentions of Youth Ministry at Darnestown Presbyterian Church are:
1. To call young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
2. To respond to the needs and the interests of young people
3. To work together, youth and adults, in partnership
4. To be connected to the whole church, community, and world
5. To include all young people, reaching out and inviting them to belong to the community of faith.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all having a GREAT SUMMER!

This is just a reminder that there will be no youth group this Sunday.  We will next meet again on Sunday, August 12.
I will be out of the office all next week since I will be part of the Drift Mission group.
A numer of youth/young adults will also be part of the group.  The youth participating are:
Liz Askins, Ted Dressel, Samantha Fowler, Annie Evans, Eric Fowler, Katherine Warley, Richard Jaques, Tyler Dressel, Sara Evans and Darin Hamberger.  I hope many of you can be in worship next Sunday to hear from the Drifters and to celebrate the 17th anniversary of this very important DPC ministry.  I also hope that many of you will consider participating next summer.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW SINCE WE ALMOST ALWAYS ARE IN DRIFT DURING THE SAME DATES.
Some of you already know that we will be collecting school supplies this summer, beginning this month and continuing into early September.
Some of you have volunteered at Community Ministry of Montgomery County's (CMMC)  Interfaith Clothing Center. CMMC distributed over 2,400 backpacks full of new school supplies this Fall.  We will have a school supply drive and we'll then take the donations to the CMMC site, the Interfaith Clothing Center.
You can also volunteer to fill backbacks with other youth from the area and you'll  receive SSL hours. Let me know if you want more info., or if you'd like to go as a group, I can help work out transportation.

This is what we'll be collecting:
pencil boxes or pencil cases, pencils, pens, colored pencils, erasers, 1" or 2" binders, packaged paper, pocket forders and rulers.
Many of these school supplies are on sale RIGHT NOW so pick up some supplies to donate.

I am still looking for  2 or 3 people who could help me organize this project along with all of you helping to collect and get the word out.  I already have a volunteer to do a minute for mission about the school supply drive,  but I need people to volunteer to be present during coffee hour early in September to receive donations and to help get the word out.  I will also make copies of the supply list which volunteers can distribute.  Cash donations are also always welcome.

I will send out a permission slip in next weeks e-mail, since everyone who participates in the day of service at Camp Meadowkirk on Monday, August 13 will need to bring a signed permission slip.

We will meet again in August:
August 12        youth group
August 13, day of service at our Presbyterian Camp, Camp Meadowkirk--can you come???
August 26        youth group

We'll have our annual Youth and Family Picnic at Darnestown Park early in September, keep an eye out for more details.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions or would like more information.
Let me know if your e-mail address has changed, or if there is a better e-mail address for you.

Peace,
Tamara Leonard Lara
